 Verified Well nuanced reveals with a great story line. Will have to look up the next in the series. Full character development without extraneous descriptions. The author has a very good balance of interactions, history, location and the occasional easter egg. Kept my attention though out, which is hard to do. I loved the revealed plot twists. What I particularly liked was the balanced approach to China/Taiwan/Japan histories. I filled in some of the nuances of history in that part of the world.

It has adventure, a great cast of characters, and just enough reality to be almost believable. I was up late into the night to finish it. I guess book two is in my sights in the very near future.  Verified Wonderful story This book takes you all the way in the history of China and one person in particular. An archeologist is hired in present day to locate a person who allegedly can live forever. The story is the archeologist 's search for the mythical person in question.  Verified Pity about the platitudes The author did restore my interest with her ending, which I didn't see coming. But her descriptions of the men in the heroine's life (and, in fact, of the heroine herself), were so full of platitudes [defined muscles, gorgeous chiseled features...oh please] that I nearly gave up in disgust. I enjoyed learning a bit about Taiwan, though.

 Verified Terrific Read I loved The Imperial Alchemist from the first page.Georgia Lee is a brilliant archeologist and is pulled into an epic adventure. She is of Chinese decent and has been brought up on the legends and mysteries of her culture.When she is approached to seek out the elixir of life the scientist in her comes to fore and she is hesitant to believe that is possible. Georgia accepts the Jon thinking it will lead to nothing and she will be able to return to her research projects quickly.As you can guess this is not the case. I urge you to buy a copy of The Imperial Alchemist and follow her journey. It turns out to be a great adventure.

 Verified Female Indiana Jones. I really liked the protagonist and the story as well, and even the twist at the end,I didn't see that coming. That was a good great reveal. Nice plot, a protagonist with personal problems like everybody else and is going through a very tragic loss as well, and then her funding for a job is pulled as well,so life is tough. Her best friend convinces to take a job that she thinks is a fairy tale, but in the end becomes a journey of a lifetime and a lot of self discovery along the way. There is a lot of Asian history especially around China, Taiwan and Japan. There is action and suspense as well, and very good pacing to keep you interested.
